Abstract

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy of a pharmaceutical powder containing two active ingredients in an excipient was used as the basis for the design of a multivariate optical computing system. Dynamic blending experiments in a Key pharmaceutical blender in which the active was added were recorded. Dynamic experiments yielded a blending time-to-homogeneity of 20 minutes.

PITTCON attendees have enjoyed the live demonstration of real-time, in-line final product testing at a rate of five tablets per second using patented Multivariate Optical Computing™ (MOC™) technology. Final tests at the rate of five tablets per second have been performed using SpectrInline Processware.

At such speeds, SpectrInline™ provides for testing of up to 18,000 tablets per hour. On a process line producing 100,000 tablets per hour, six SpectrInline systems can perform 100-percent final product testing.

The Ometric booth has been drawing quite a crowd. PITTCON 2006 attendees have come from every direction to see Ometric’s real-time, in-line demonstrations.

Although we knew some of our booth guests before the show, many of them have noticed our presence here and decided to stop by. One of our visitors even told us that he stopped by because he saw our protest!

Visitors have represented major companies from a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, chemicals, food and beverage and homeland security. We’ve also met with representatives of major regulatory agencies. And yesterday, we had a visit from our friends and supporters from Columbia, S.C.

So, if you haven’t come by to see us yet, what are you waiting for? Visit Ometric at PITTCON through Thursday afternoon in Booth #5657.

A group of protesters began the first day of PITTCON® 2006 by demonstrating in front of the Orange County Convention Center. The sixties-style protest group, holding picketing signs, shouted chants as they marched around the shuttle depot.

Their demand? Real-time, in-line spectroscopy.

“Give us your spectra; we’ll give you control!” they shouted. “Real-time, in-line!” Their picketing signs read Control Freaks Unite! and I Want Control, Right Now!.

Luckily, the protesters won’t have to live in a world without real-time, in-line spectroscopy. In fact, the group of demonstrators has been spotted throughout the day at Booth #5657, viewing… well, demonstrations.
